Our practice specializes in Hard-to-fit contact lenses: toric, multifocals, toric multifocals, sclerals, gas permeable(GPs), hybrid contact lenses.

Toric - Can be rigid or soft, used to correct astigmatism. Astigmatism is due to an irregular shaped cornea or lens causing blurred vision, especially at night.

Multifocal- Can be rigid or soft and used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and presbyopia in patients 40 years of age and older.  This type of contact lens helps reduce the need for reading glasses. The correction allows clear vision while looking at far for driving and near for the computer / reading.

Toric Multifocal - Can be rigid or soft and used to correct astigmatism and computer / reading vision.

Scleral - Large diameter rigid gas permeable contact lens that is designed to vault over the corneal surface and rest on the “white” of the eye (sclera).   To correct an irregular corneal surface, a scleral lens provides a smooth optical refracting surface to correct the following corneal conditions: keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, post-lasik, post-rk, dry eyes, high myopia, post corneal transplant, anisometropia (large difference between the two eyes).  We even fit scleral lenses for people with normal eyes because it does not move while the patient blinks. Clear and consistent vision and is superior to a soft contact lens.

Rigid Gas Permeable- these are hard or rigid lenses similar to a scleral lens, but is fit on the corneal surface.  These lenses usually are small in diameter and provide clear and crisp vision due to their rigid nature. This lens corrects the same vision problems as scleral lens but may not be as comfortable due to their movement while blinking.

Hybrid Contact Lenses - combines the structure of a rigid gas permeable contact lens and a soft contact lens.

The video below is of our patient that has a scarred cornea in the left eye. We were able to design a customized prosthetic contact lens to help him with his appearance. Take a look at the before and after images in the video on how this has impacted his life.
